What You Can Do

We do all that we can to make certain that banking at ACU is consistently secure and that your financial information is secure. You can help us, by doing your part to stay safe.

Set up account alerts Expand/Collapse

Be alerted by email or SMS text whenever a certain event occurs on  your account such as a change in password, incorrect responses to your security questions, and more. Here's how to set that up:

  • navigate to the Messages and alerts area on the left hand menu of the Online Banking main page once you've logged in
  • click on Manage alerts under that menu
  • choose any of the alerts on the list you'd like to activate, and follow the instructions to set them up

Keep your passwords secure Expand/Collapse

  • never share your passwords or access codes with anyone; if you think that a password or access code has been compromised, please contact us immediately
  • never select a Personal Access Code (PAC) for online banking that's easy to guess or one based on personal information a fraudster could guess (like your name, birthday, street address, phone number or social insurance number)
  • never select a Personal Identification Number (PIN) for your ATM card that's easy to guess (such as 12345) or one based on personal information a fraudster could guess (like your phone number or social insurance number)
  • protect your PIN and PAC, and be careful that nobody observes you while you enter them
  • change your PIN and PAC regularly
  • contact us immediately if you suspect someone has illegally obtained knowledge about your PIN or PAC

Practice protected online banking Expand/Collapse

  • only visit reputable sites; if you happen to open any questionable web sites, please quit and restart your browser before using Online Banking
  • don't use the automatic password-save features built into some browsers and operating software for Online Banking
  • never leave your computer unattended when using Online Banking, especially when other people are in the area
  • always logout of Online Banking when you've completed your session, and close that window or quit your browser if you step away from your computer; your browser may retain information you entered in the login screen and elsewhere until you exit it
  • avoid using public computers, such as in an airport or library, for your online banking; although using a supported browser will help with security, public computers accessed by hackers can be set up to store keystrokes and record personal information without your knowledge

While using the internet Expand/Collapse

  • purchase, install and regularly use a recognized anti virus program that updates its database frequently, because new viruses are always being created
  • install and use a personal firewall on your computer (and modem/router) to ensure that hackers can't access your computer through the 'net
  • install new security patches on your operating system and browsers as soon as they're released

Staying safe with emails Expand/Collapse

  • ACU will never send sensitive information by email and request that you don't, either; if you need to contact us with a personal inquiry, please call our Member Communication Centre instead
  • never tap on links to "our" website or to "online banking" from within an email, because ACU never sends these links in an email, they come from fraudsters who make them look very authentic, however the sites you're taken to are set up to hack your personal information
  • always type our website address into your browser https://www.assiniboine.mb.ca/, or use a bookmarked address and don't use the autofill feature
  • don't reply to emails asking you to verify or otherwise supply personal information by email or by a link supplied in that email; ACU will never ask you to send private information through email, nor will we ever ask for your Personal Access Code (PAC) or Personal Identification Number (PIN)
