U.S. Travel

Using your ACU debit card in the U.S.A.

It's easy and a convenient way to make purchases and have American dollars on hand. More than two million merchants are on the network, and you can feel more secure by carrying less cash. And remember, keep your PIN in your head, not in your wallet!

Where you can use it

Just look for the NYCE® and MAESTRO® brands at the retailer's point-of-sale terminal. Here's a list of Popular Retailers.

Exchange rates

Purchases are converted to Canadian dollars at the exchange rate in effect at the time of processing. Since exchange rates fluctuate, the rate applied will usually differ from the exchange rate posted at the time of your purchase.

U.S. transactions on your statement

Your debit card transactions while in the U.S. appear on your monthly statement and online banking much like Canadian transactions, with a few small differences. Depending on which provider the retailer uses, NYCE® or MAESTRO®, you may notice the U.S. dollar amount in the description, store name and number and location. The exchanged Canadian funds will debited from your account.

Keep yourself covered

We always recommend to our members that they carry more than one form of payment with them. U.S. cash is available at our branches, you can make cash withdrawals at most U.S. Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), and the ACU Mastercard is accepted widely across the United States.
