Personal good fortune and hard work have paid off for Paula Migliardi and Gio Robson. Now they are paying back.

Gio runs a thriving business as a home energy consultant and Paula is a researcher and consultant in public health. For the first time, they found themselves in a position to invest for their future and for their new son Nico. They didn’t know much about investing, but they knew they wanted to put their money into something that reflected their values.

The couple decided to look for investments that paid attention to their daily work which is rooted in environmentalism and human rights. But what to invest in? And did their bank have what they were looking for? The couple got answers to their questions when Cheryl Crowe, ACU’s Socially Responsible Investment Specialist was a guest speaker at a non-profit group that Gio chaired. She talked about how a company’s social and environmental impact can be taken into consideration when making investment decisions.

A few meetings with ACU staff later and the couple was ready to become members of the credit union and to put their money where their values are. “Now we’re able to put our good fortune to work in a way that fits our world view.” says Gio. “That’s important to us.”
