Sending and Receiving Wires
When sending or receiving a wire, it is important that all information is correct. Errors in spelling or routing information may result in the wire being rejected or in additional fees.
- If sending a wire please confirm all information, including spelling and routing information, with the recipient.
- If receiving a wire please contact us to confirm that you have all the necessary routing information.
Whether you are sending or receiving a wire, please make sure that:
- we have the most up-to-date information regarding your legal address,* occupation, and name on our banking system.
- we have your valid identification on file (eg. driver's license).
- you are aware of ACU's service fees.
Please note: wire transfers may be subject to fees charged by the receiving financial institution, as well as any intermediary financial institutions. These fees are regulated by other institutions and will be taken from the funds being transferred.
What is routing information?
Routing information, or wire instructions, is a series of numbers or letters that directs a wire to the specific financial institution used by the recipient of the funds.
The routing information for sending wires can appear in different formats depending on the type of wire system that is used within the receiving country. Some common examples of routing instructions are: SWIFT Code (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication); IBAN (International Bank Account Number); and ABA number (American Bankers Association).
Usually the correct information is only available from the receiving institution and should be provided by the recipient of the wire.
