Using Your Debit Card in the United States

Making purchases with your ACU debit card in the US is easy and convenient. With over two million merchants now on the network, you can take advantage of greater security by carrying less cash. All you need is your ACU debit card and your PIN; it's like having cash in your hands, 24 hours a day. Just look for the NYCE and Maestro brands at the point-of-sale terminal. To view a list of US retailers, visit http://www.nyce.net/consumers/retailerlist/popularretailers/index.htm.

US debit card transactions appear on your monthly statement and online banking much like Canadian transactions, with a few small differences. Depending on which provider, NYCE or Maestro, the retailer uses, you may notice the US dollar amount in the description, store name and number and location. The exchanged Canadian funds will debited from your account.

Purchases are converted to Canadian dollars at the exchange rate in effect at the time of processing. Since exchange rates fluctuate, the rate applied will usually differ from a posted exchange rate at the time of your purchase.

As always, it is recommended that you carry more than one form of payment with you. US cash is available at our branches, you can make cash withdrawals at most US ATMS, and ACU MasterCard is accepted widely across the US.
