Employee Community Involvement

We support and encourage ACU employees to contribute to the community through partnerships with community organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and the United Way; and by supporting fundraising events such as the Dragon Boat Races and Run for Rights.

The following are some ways our employees become involved with their communities:

  • Habitat for Humanity:  In 2007 we launched a partnership with Habitat for Humanity to help build safe, decent and affordable housing for working low income families. In addition to a financial contribution, ACU provided time off with pay for three ACU teams to help build Habitat Homes that give people a hand up – not a handout – and break the cycle of poverty.
  • United Way:  In 2007 we launched a strategic partnership with United Way of Winnipeg to help reduce poverty by raising dollars for Asset Building Programs that help low-income participants save and create new opportunity for themselves.
  • Staff Fundraisers: ACU supports the fundraising efforts of our employees who actively participate in events such as Run for Rights, which raises money for Winnipeg organizations working for social justice and human rights; and the Dragon Boat Races that support CancerCare Manitoba.
  • Participation on Community Boards and Committees: Our employees have an excellent record of representing ACU on numerous community boards and advisory committees. Some of these include SEED Winnipeg, The Jubilee Fund, Winnipeg Partnership Agreement Social Economy and Community Development Advisory Committee, Social Investment Organization, Canadian Community Investment Network Cooperative, Manitoba Cooperative Association and more.
