Nigel has been with Assiniboine Credit Union since 2001. As the Manager of Community Services in our Business and Community Financial Centre (BCFC), he arranges financing for and provides financial counseling to non-profit organizations, micro businesses and affordable housing initiatives.

Nigel plays a key role in designing affordable housing programs for low income families, seniors, students, new immigrants and persons with developmental challenges. Through his involvement with Partnerships for Affordable Housing, he has helped arrange $23 million in loans from ACU to develop almost 700 affordable and special-needs housing units in Winnipeg. In doing so, he’s helped make the dream of home ownership a reality to people excluded from conventional home financing offered by other institutions.

In addition, Nigel assists with the development of small business start ups or expansions. Working to strengthen nonprofit social services and cultural organizations is another important aspect of his job.

Like many of his colleagues in BCFC, Nigel regularly volunteers his time outside of the credit union to work with business-support agencies and other community initiatives both on a local and international level. In 2005, he was one of two BCFC representatives invited to present at a model credit union showcase as part of the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions’ 48th Annual International Convention in St. Kitts and Nevis. The CCCU represents over 16 million members and 342 credit unions across 22 countries.

In addition to undertaking ongoing training related to his career, Nigel holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Manitoba and is a Fellow of the Credit Union Institute of Canada at Dalhousie University.
