ACU is governed by a dedicated, independent Board of Directors, elected by and accountable to the member-owners of the credit union. The board acts to protect and enhance Assiniboine’s assets in the interest of members and other stakeholders, establishes policy and sets the direction of the credit union. Director Margaret Day also represents ACU on the board of Credit Union Central of Manitoba.

Each member of the board participates in at least one committee. In 2011-2012, the committees are:

Audit and Risk Committee assists the board with ensuring that an effective enterprise risk management framework is in place to manage risks, that financial and regulatory risks are effectively controlled and managed, and that the reporting of financial results is reliable.

Governance and Ethics Committee assists the board with providing effective governance that evolves with the needs of ACU, including board development, succession planning, and with ensuring that policies are in place for the ethical conduct of directors and employees.

Human Resources Policy and Compensation Committee assists the board with ensuring that policies are in place to provide employees with fair and meaningful employment in a safe and respectful workplace that includes and accommodates a diverse workforce, and with evaluating and compensating the President & CEO.

Community and Member Relations Committee assists the board with ensuring that ACU pursues objectives to foster self-reliant sustainable communities, is responsive to member needs and encourages member engagement, and fulfills its accountability to the community and members.

Nominating Committee assists the board in identifying qualified candidates for election to the Board of Directors and in providing for the proper conduct of the election.
