Top 100 Employer in Canada
Assiniboine Credit Union Named Top 10 Employer in Manitoba and Top 100 Employer in Canada
Maclean’s Magazine – in its national hunt for the best employers in Canada – has named Assiniboine Credit Union as one of Manitoba’s Top 10 employers and, for the second year running, has added ACU to the ranks of Top 100 employers in Canada.
The Winnipeg-based Assiniboine Credit Union beat out 60,000 businesses in Canada to be named “an outstanding employer that leads its industry in attracting and retaining quality employees,” according to Maclean’s.
This award comes on the heels of a significant move by the co-op members four weeks ago to merge Assiniboine, Astra and Vantis Credit Unions, making it the second largest credit union in Manitoba.
“It’s been an incredibly busy and exciting year for us as we grow our business. But to continue to be known across Canada as an employer that cares for its staff, in the wave of all this change, tells us we’re still anchored in our values that put our employees and our members first,” said Susan Deane, Chair of ACU’s Board of Directors.
Al Morin, Assiniboine Credit Union President and CEO congratulated staff today and thanked them for making their workplace a career destination for future employees.
“Our employees are what make us successful and we wouldn’t be making the advances we are without their support and direction. We certainly wouldn’t be attracting the talent we do without the solid reputation they’ve helped create for ACU. And that’s increasingly important in a tighter labour market,” Morin said.
The creation of the Vice-President of Corporate Social Responsibility position in 2006 was one of the things that lead Maclean’s to recognize ACU as a leading employer, said ACU’s Vice-President of Human Resources Michelle Manary.
“Two other things we were recognized for this year were the opening of our environmentally green Rivergrove branch that is every employee’s dream workplace. The judges also liked the way we’ve re-branded the credit union with our new logo and tagline “Good Things Happen Here”. Good things certainly happened here this week with these awards,” Manary said.
The editorial and judging team of the Top 100 Employers Award reviewed over 60,000 employers across Canada and invited 10,000 to formally apply. The list of the Top 100 Employers is published in this week’s Maclean’s magazine.
