Installing energy-efficient lighting, heating, cooling and water-heating systems can dramatically reduce energy use and cost. By selecting high-efficiency appliances with ENERGY STAR® ratings, and quality exterior doors and windows, you will further reduce your home’s energy consumption.

Grants and Refund Programs

  • Power Smart Home Insulation Program: Offers financial incentives on the purchase of insulation (up to 100% of the material cost) that meets eligibility requirements, and insulating work that meets the minimum Power Smart levels.  
  • Manitoba Hydro's Power Smart Residential Loans Program: This program assists home owners with energy improvement. Upgrades must be made to levels recommended by Manitoba Hydro. Eligible projects are listed on the website. The maximum loan is $7,500 and the minimum is $500. The annual fixed interest rate is 4.9%. No down payment is required. The maximum term is 60 months. Monthly installments are included on the customer's energy bill.
  • Government of Manitoba’s Geothermal Energy Incentive Program: This Manitoba initiative provides a refundable tax credit for the installation of geothermal systems into new homes as well as geothermal conversions in existing homes.
  • Manitoba Hydro’s Lower Income Energy Efficiency Program: The Lower Income Energy Efficiency Program makes it easy for qualifying homeowners to reduce their energy costs and improve the comfort of their home through a free in-home energy efficiency review and basic energy saving items; free qualifying insulation upgrades; and a new high efficiency natural gas furnace for only $19/month for a fixed term.
